Orogbu Faces Questions Over Umuawulu Road Project As Constituents Demand Clarity

Prof. Oby Lilian Orogbu, member representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has come under fresh scrutiny over the status of the Umuawulu Road project reportedly attracted to the constituency through her legislative intervention.
The development followed questions raised by constituent Ikechukwu Augustine Obah, who demanded clarity on the project’s funding, implementation status and timeline. Obah recalled that Orogbu had announced the Umuawulu Road alongside the renovation of two classrooms at Ezi Awka Secondary School and the 500 metre Holy Family Youth Road in Amansea ahead of a commissioning event on February 21, 2025.
Obah questioned why the Umuawulu Road was not among the projects commissioned on that date and called for documentary evidence showing its budgetary provision, implementing agency and current status.
But Orogbu’s camp has pushed back strongly, describing the publication as misleading. The lawmaker’s camp explained that the February 21, 2025 event was strictly for completed projects and that only the renovated classrooms at Ezi Awka Secondary School and the 500 metre Holy Family Youth Village Access Road in Amansea were commissioned.
It maintained that the Umuawulu Road project was captured under Federal Government Zonal Intervention Projects and is currently at the procurement and documentation stage with the relevant implementing agency.
Orogbu’s camp also challenged claims of more than ₦3 billion in annual constituency allocations, asking for evidence to support the figure.
The controversy has therefore moved beyond the question of whether the road was commissioned in 2025, with attention now focused on the project’s budget, implementing agency, procurement status and when physical construction is expected to commence.
The development is likely to keep constituency project accountability under public scrutiny in Awka North and South as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections gather momentum.
