Anambra Police Neutralise Two Suspected Kidnappers, Recover AK 47, Pump Action Gun
The Anambra State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its ongoing intelligence led operations against kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes in the state.
Police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, early Wednesday received credible intelligence on the presence of suspected kidnappers and armed robbers along the Eziowelle Road.
The operatives swiftly moved to the area, where the suspects reportedly opened fire on sighting the police team, triggering a gun duel.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, two of the suspects sustained fatal gunshot injuries during the encounter, while other members of the gang reportedly escaped into the surrounding area with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.
Police recovered one AK 47 rifle with a magazine containing four live rounds, one pump action gun and five live cartridges from the scene.
The Command said intensified efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects, while further investigations have commenced.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, reaffirmed the Command’s determination to sustain proactive and intelligence led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and protecting residents across Anambra State.
The Police Command said further developments would be communicated as investigations continue.
