Anambra Residents Rally Behind Statewide Environmental Sanitation Exercise

Residents across Awka, the Anambra State capital, have begun extensive environmental sanitation ahead of the statewide cleanup exercise, demonstrating widespread support for the environmental emergency declared by the Anambra State Government.
The early response follows the declaration of a state of emergency on the environment by Governor and the scheduled statewide sanitation exercise of Saturday, July 4.
The exercise is aimed at desilting drainage channels, clearing gutters, removing refuse, and opening blocked waterways to ensure the free flow of rainwater as the state prepares for the peak of the rainy season.
Across several communities in Awka on Friday, July 3, residents were seen clearing drains, evacuating waste, and cleaning their surroundings in preparation for the government directed sanitation exercise.
The widespread participation reflects growing public awareness of the importance of environmental sanitation in preventing flooding, safeguarding lives and property, and promoting healthier communities across Anambra State.
The Anambra State Government has continued to emphasize environmental sustainability as a key component of its development agenda, encouraging residents to take collective responsibility for maintaining clean and flood resilient communities.
