Mrs Soludo Praises Nigeria’s First Lady for Support to Women, Children and Vulnerable Persons

The Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has commended the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her support for women, children, youths and vulnerable persons in Anambra State through the Renewed Hope Initiative.

Mrs Soludo spoke during an empowerment programme for 5,000 beneficiaries at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, where she distributed various livelihood equipment, including sewing machines, hairdressing and barbing equipment, weaving machines, fish farming equipment, fingerlings, pigs and goats.

She particularly appreciated the First Lady for empowering 500 women in Anambra State and establishing a food bank for women, children and vulnerable families in the state and the Southeast.

Mrs Soludo said the food bank initiative would help reduce hunger and malnutrition among children under six years, while urging mothers, pregnant women and nursing mothers to register at the nearest Primary Health Centre.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Bernard Doro, described the establishment of food banks across the six geopolitical zones as a major step towards tackling hunger and malnutrition, while also creating a market for local farmers.

The Managing Director of the Bank of Industry, Dr Oladipo Olusi, and the Managing Director of the National Health Insurance Authority, Dr Muyi Aina, commended the First Lady for programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and pledged support for the sustainability of the food bank initiative.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Anambra State Council of Traditional Rulers, Igwe Chukwudubem Iweka of Obosi, welcomed the First Lady to Anambra and commended her efforts, alongside President Bola Tinubu, towards improving the welfare of Nigerians.
