Kogi Man Arrested for Allegedly Setting Wife Ablaze After Domestic Dispute

The Kogi State Police Command has arrested a man, Jacob Irewa, for allegedly setting his wife, Berida Irawo, on fire following a domestic disagreement in Lokoja.

The incident occurred on Friday, August 14, at Oworo Estate, Felele. Police said the suspect allegedly threatened his wife before fetching petrol from his motorcycle and setting her ablaze.

The victim survived the attack and is receiving treatment at a hospital in Felele, while the suspect reportedly admitted to the act during preliminary investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, condemned the incident and reaffirmed the command’s zero tolerance for domestic violence.

Police said the suspect will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
