FG Inaugurates Advertising Offences Tribunal, Demands Integrity

The Federal Government has inaugurated the Advertising Offences Tribunal to strengthen regulation, compliance and enforcement in Nigeria’s advertising industry.

Inaugurating the Tribunal in Abuja, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, urged members to discharge their duties with independence, fairness and integrity.

Idris said the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria Act No. 23 of 2022 expanded ARCON’s powers and provided for the establishment of the Tribunal to handle offences under the Act, advertising regulations and relevant codes.

The Minister charged the five member panel, chaired by Justice Cecilia M. A. Olatoregun, to determine cases on their merits without fear or favour.

Earlier, ARCON Director General, Dr Olalekan Fadolapo, described the Tribunal as a major step in industry regulation, while Justice Olatoregun pledged that the panel would uphold integrity, fairness and professionalism in carrying out its responsibilities.
