EFCC Secures Fresh Convictions for Internet Fraud in Lagos, Kaduna

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has recorded fresh victories in its crackdown on internet fraud, securing the conviction of suspects in separate cases before courts in Lagos and Kaduna.

In Lagos, Justice John T. Tsoho of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi convicted and sentenced Nnamdi Denzel Obinwogu to six months imprisonment for impersonation. Obinwogu, who was arraigned by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the EFCC on January 16, 2026, faced a one count charge bordering on internet fraud and impersonation. The court found him guilty and handed down the custodial sentence on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

Similarly, in Kaduna, the EFCC secured the conviction of two fraudsters before Justice Murtala J. Zubairu of the Kaduna State High Court. The convictions were obtained by the Kaduna Zonal Directorate on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. The defendants were among suspects arrested for offences relating to cheating by impersonation.

The latest convictions underscore the EFCC’s continued efforts to combat cybercrime and financial fraud across the country. The Commission has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that individuals involved in internet related offences are investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
