Family Alleges Cover Up as Brother Demands Justice for Woman Allegedly Killed by Boyfriend in Rivers

The family of a young woman allegedly killed by her boyfriend in Rivers State has called for justice, accusing the suspect’s relatives of attempting to manipulate the case and shield him from accountability.

The deceased, Caroline Igbiri, reportedly died following a violent domestic dispute with her boyfriend, Richard Nangibo, in Eneka, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area on Saturday, July 11, 2026. Police have arrested the suspect in connection with the incident.

According to reports, the altercation began after the suspect allegedly accused Caroline of infidelity. Residents said the disagreement escalated into a physical assault during which she reportedly fell and struck her head against a sharp edge of a wall, sustaining fatal injuries.

Reacting to the tragedy, Caroline’s brother, Sunday Igbiri, took to Facebook on Wednesday, July 15, to demand justice for his sister. He alleged that the suspect was involved in internet fraud and claimed, without providing evidence, that Richard had manipulated his sister with the intention of using her for ritual purposes.

Sunday further alleged that the suspect’s family had refused to engage with Caroline’s relatives and was instead attempting to influence the investigation with money. He urged law enforcement authorities to carry out a transparent investigation and ensure that anyone found responsible is held accountable.

The police have not publicly confirmed the family’s additional allegations regarding internet fraud, ritual motives, or attempts to manipulate the investigation. The case remains under investigation.
