21 Years After Apo Six Killings, Linda Ikeji Returns to Cinemas With ‘The Night of June 7th’

Twenty one years after the controversial Apo Six killings, the story that shook Nigeria is set to return to public consciousness through the big screen.

Linda Ikeji Media is making its return to Nigerian cinemas with The Night of June 7th, a film inspired by the 2005 extrajudicial killing of six young Nigerians in Apo, Abuja.

Written and produced by Linda Ikeji and directed by Toka Mcbaror, the movie will open in cinemas nationwide on August 28, 2026.

The Apo Six incident sparked widespread outrage, protests and a national debate over police accountability and justice. The case later resulted in the conviction of two police officers who were sentenced to death.

The film features Gideon Okeke, Femi Branch, Ali Nuhu and Charles Lenny among its lead cast.

Describing the project as a long-awaited reckoning, Ikeji said the film seeks to revisit the unanswered questions surrounding the night six young Nigerians left home and never returned.

Director Toka Mcbaror said the production was approached with the responsibility of preserving the memory of the victims while confronting the difficult questions surrounding the incident.

The Night of June 7th will be distributed by Nile Distribution, with tickets expected to go on sale ahead of the nationwide release.
