2027: “Support APC or Leave Kuje” — Council Chairman’s Threat Sparks Outrage

The Chairman of Kuje Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, Samuel Shekwolo, has come under criticism after appearing in a video threatening residents who may refuse to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

In the video circulating on social media, Shekwolo told residents who would not support the ruling party to leave the area council, insisting that he was not prepared to accept opposition to the APC during the election.

The council chairman linked his position to what he described as the developmental efforts of President Bola Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in Kuje.

He said residents could not benefit from the administration’s projects and subsequently vote against the party during the election.

His remarks have triggered reactions, with critics questioning the legality and propriety of a public office holder allegedly asking residents to leave an area because of their political preference.

The controversy comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections intensify across the country, with concerns growing over the need for public officials and political actors to respect citizens’ constitutional right to freely choose their preferred candidates and political parties.

The FCT Police Command had yet to publicly comment on the video as of the time of filing this report.
