Police Bust Alleged Baby Factory in Ogun, Rescue Pregnant Women and Children

Police operatives in Ogun State have uncovered an alleged baby factory in Abaren Village, Mowe, rescuing two pregnant women and four children and arresting six suspects in connection with the operation.

The breakthrough came on Monday, August 24, following an intelligence led operation by the Ogun State Police Command.

According to the Command, the two rescued women were identified as 23 year old Ilesanmi Foluke, who was seven months pregnant, and 20 year old Ejekwa Melody, who was eight months pregnant.

The operation did not end at the suspected facility.

Acting on further intelligence, police operatives traced the investigation to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where a woman identified as Blessing Bright Effiong had reportedly delivered a baby boy.

But investigators were confronted with another disturbing development.

The newborn could not be accounted for, leading to the arrest of the nurse who reportedly attended to the delivery.

Six suspects, including the nurse, have so far been arrested as investigators work to unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged operation and establish what happened to the missing newborn.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

Police authorities say efforts are ongoing to locate the missing baby and determine the full extent of the alleged network.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the disturbing practice of so called baby factories, where vulnerable women and children can become victims of exploitation and illegal trafficking.
