US-Based Physician Donates Health, Telemedicine Research Center To Nanka Community

A US-based Physician, Professor Tochukwu Nwafor, has through ‘The Richard and Caroline Nwafor Foundation’ donated Health and Telemedicine Research Center” to his Nanka community in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State in honor of his late mother, Caroline.

Phase one of the “Nanka Health and Telemedicine Research Center” which focused on the construction and completion of the physical building infrastructure has been completed, phase two, which will involve the installation of advanced technology, medical equipment and other essential infrastructure is expected to be completed in 2027, while phase three, which encompasses the commencement of clinical operations, is projected to begin in 2028, according to the donor.

Speaking to newsmen before ceremonial cutting of tape to commission the physical building infrastructure, Nwafor, a Professor of Medicine, said the initiative reflects a commitment to improving access to quality primary healthcare while advancing medical research and innovation in rural communities, adding that “The Nanka Health and Telemedicine Research Center is designed to harness state-of-the-art telemedicine technology to connect volunteer physicians and healthcare professionals from around the world with patients in Nanka and surrounding communities.

“Through this innovative model, patients in rural areas will have greater access to medical expertise in primary care that may otherwise be difficult to obtain due to cost.

Beyond providing healthcare services, Professor Nwafor said “the center is envisioned as a global center of excellence for rural health research, creating opportunities for collaboration among physicians, researchers, technology experts, academic institutions, and healthcare organizations around the world”, noting that the project represents a significant investment in the health and future of the Nanka community, and is intended to serve as a sustainable model for leveraging technology to address healthcare disparities in rural and underserved communities.

“Through the vision of Prof. Tochukwu Nwafor and the support of The Richard and Caroline Nwafor Foundation, the Nanka Health and Telemedicine Research Center aims to honor the legacy of Hon. Mrs. Caroline Nwafor by transforming lives and contributing to the advancement of healthcare in Nanka, Nigeria, and beyond”.

For the Traditional Ruler of Nanka, Igwe Godwin Ezeilo, the Nwafors deserve commendation and emulation for cultivating and nurturing the habit of giving back to society, especially where they come from, noting that there is reward for every good deed.

Earlier during thanksgiving church service at St. Faith Anglican Church Ubahu, Nanka, for the successful end of funeral ceremony for the late Mrs Caroline Nwafor, an indigenous priest, Reverend Sunday Chinedu, reminded Christians that God demands to receive not because He has problems to be solved, but to measure the level of love and faith of His people, assuring that givers never lack.
