Urum Community Raises Alarm Over Alleged Violation Of Court Order On Ochiokwa Land

The people of Urum Community in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State have raised concerns over the alleged violation of a Federal High Court order restraining estate developers from selling, developing or altering the disputed Ochiokwa land.

The Federal High Court, Awka Judicial Division, presided over by Justice Arinze Akabua, had on June 23, 2026, directed all parties in the dispute involving Urum Community, Nwageuataghighia and Pineleaf Estate not to sell, alienate, develop or alter the land pending the hearing and determination of an application for injunction.

Speaking to ABS, the President General of Urum Community, Sir Felix Oranye, alleged that work had continued on the disputed land despite the court order, claiming that Pineleaf Estate recently bulldozed part of the area and destroyed economic trees and crops.

The Public Relations Officer of Urum Town Union, Mr Emeka Muokwugwo, described Urum as a peace loving community and called on the court and Anambra State Government to ensure that the court order is respected and justice served, while an affected farmer, Mrs Maureen Egwuonwu, said the alleged clearing destroyed her cassava farm and appealed for government intervention.

During an ABS visit to the site, an official of Pineleaf Estate, speaking off record, claimed that the company was unaware that the portion it cleared was covered by the court’s restraining order.
