UK Inquest Rules 27 Year Old Nigerian Mother Died by Suicide After Mental Health Struggles

A coroner’s inquest in the United Kingdom has concluded that Beatrice Solomon, a 27 year old Nigerian mother of one, died by suicide following a prolonged struggle with her mental health.

Beatrice was found unresponsive at her home on Norris Road, Stanfield, Stoke on Trent, on March 4, 2026, after her husband, Damian Michael Butler, returned home from work. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but she was pronounced dead.

During the inquest, her husband said Beatrice had experienced mental health challenges over the previous year, which he linked to ongoing issues involving Stoke on Trent City Council. He also disclosed that he later learned she had made two previous suicide attempts.

A pathologist determined that she died from oxygen deprivation, while Coroner Li Hammond Naylor ruled the death was a suicide, noting that evidence indicated it had been planned. She extended condolences to Beatrice’s family and friends.

Beatrice, who worked as a carer, moved from Nigeria to Stoke on Trent in November 2023. She is survived by her young son and siblings.

If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of suicide or overwhelming emotional distress, reaching out to a trusted person or a local mental health professional can make a difference. Help is available.
