Nigeria’s First Lady’s Visit: APC Faithful Say “Progressives are no longer working together in Anambra”

Following protocol issues at the Anambra Airport, Umueri, where Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu landed for her state visit, members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state who could not gain entrance into the VIPs waiting lounge resorted to shouting “Progressives are no longer working together in Anambra” to register their displeasure.
Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has repeatedly said that APGA and APC are “working together as progressives” in Anambra and at the national level, pointing to his good working relationship with President Bola Tinubu and the APC-led federal government.
However, the Anambra State Chairman of the APC, Senator Emmanuel Anosike, had accused the Governor of using the “progressives working together” slogan to confuse APC members ahead of the 2027 elections, adding that APC is mobilizing to win all positions in 2027.
At the airport, APC faithful who gathered to welcome Senator Oluremi Tinubu were House of Assembly candidates in Anambra, women leaders at the state, zone local government and ward level, among others.
They claimed that the guest belongs to them in particular as members of the ruling party at the national level, and said that they deserved better treatment like APGA faithful and or candidates while waiting for her arrival.
The situation degenerated into serious pushing by armed police officers and airport security officials, forcing the women to retreat until the arrival of the APC Anambra Central Senatorial District, Senator Uche Ekwunife, which change the situation; as many people joined her to cross an entrance and lined up to welcome the first lady.
From the airport, Senator Oluremi Tinubu proceeded to the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, where she commissioned a state-of-the-art ICT centre at established to bridge the digital divide for students in Anambra and the South-East, and to equip the next generation with skills for the global economy.
From Oko, the first lady went to Amawbia for the launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme – South East, which will bring further federal presence, renewed hope, and a stronger message of partnership to the people of Anambra.
At the Ekwueme Square in Awka, Senator Oluremi Tinubu flagged off statewide empowerment programme of the Anambra first lady, Nonye Soludo, for five hundred beneficiaries from the twenty-one local government areas of the state before departure.
