Man Arrested Over Alleged Murder of Girlfriend in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 30 year old man, Okpara Chibuike Emmanuel, over the alleged murder of his girlfriend, identified as Chinyere.

The suspect was arrested on September 21, 2026, by operatives of Awkunanaw Division after he was reportedly rescued from an angry mob who apprehended him following the discovery of the woman’s decomposing body inside his apartment.

According to preliminary police investigation, the incident occurred on September 19. The suspect allegedly struck the woman on the head with a pestle during an argument, wrapped her remains in nylon and locked them inside the toilet.

Police said the suspect, during interrogation, claimed the argument was over allegations that they had infected each other with HIV. He reportedly confessed to hitting the woman, leading to her death.

The remains have been deposited in a mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while efforts are underway to trace her relatives. The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has ordered a thorough investigation, with the suspect expected to be charged to court after the investigation.
