The Chief Executive Officer of Diaspora Digital Media, Mrs Beatrice Akwanamnye, has urged young Nigerians to acquire relevant technology skills, describing digital competence as an important tool for accessing employment opportunities and improving their livelihoods.
Akwanamnye gave the advice during the commissioning of a volleyball court at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Umuawulu, Anambra State, where she stressed that the growing influence of artificial intelligence made it necessary for young people to develop skills that would enable them to remain relevant in the changing world of work.

She noted that artificial intelligence itself would not necessarily take away jobs, but that people equipped with the skills to use and work with the technology would have an advantage in the employment market.
The DDM chief executive also encouraged retired persons and older Nigerians to embrace technology training, stressing that there was no age limit to learning new skills.
The NYSC State Coordinator in Anambra State, Mrs Pauline Ojisua, acknowledged the organisation’s collaboration with the scheme and assured that the newly commissioned volleyball court would be properly maintained and put to good use.

Speaking on the organisation’s objectives, the General Manager of Diaspora Digital Media, Kelvin Jakpor, said the initiative was focused on equipping graduates with relevant information and communication technology skills to improve their competitiveness and support their everyday activities.
The organisation’s Human Resources Manager, Elder Chekwube Okwuonu, also commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for promoting technology training in Anambra State, describing the initiative as an important step towards preparing young people for emerging opportunities.

A female corps member, Majekodunmi Lateefat Olaitan, who is a volleyball player and captain of her team, expressed excitement over the facility and encouraged plus-size women to participate in sports they enjoy, regardless of their body size.
The commissioning brought together stakeholders in technology, youth development and sports, highlighting the importance of combining digital skills development with opportunities for physical activity among young people.
