Ibezim Reaffirms Anambra Boundary Committee’s Commitment to Peaceful Resolution of Land Disputes

The Anambra State Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Boundary Committee, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, has reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to restoring lasting peace in communities affected by boundary and land disputes across the state.

Dr. Ibezim stated this at the Light House, Awka, during a meeting of the committee to conclude discussions on the monumentation of boundaries involving Eboitenani Umuoji and Mgbachu Nkpor, Agbudu Nando and Igbariam, as well as Ndikelionwu and Amaokpala.

The Deputy Governor commended members of the committee for their dedication to actualising Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of restoring peace to communities affected by boundary disputes.

He urged members to remain focused on their mandate and encouraged the affected communities to sheathe their swords and embrace dialogue and peaceful coexistence as a pathway to sustainable development.

Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Boundary Matters, Mr. Ekenechukwu Okoye, said the committee had recorded significant progress in the resolution of inter community and interstate boundary disputes as part of its strategic conflict management and peace building mandate.

According to him, the interventions of the committee have helped to foster peace and stability in several affected communities.

He listed Ikem Ivite and Aguleri, Agbaja Anaku and Akpi Umuoka, Omor, as well as Akamanato, Nando and Dagama, Ikem Ivite, among communities that are now enjoying lasting peace following the committee’s interventions.

Representatives of the affected communities expressed appreciation to the committee for its efforts toward resolving the longstanding disputes.

They included the Chairman of Eboitenani Umuoji, Mr. Chijioke Orakwe; Chairman of the Land Committee, Agbudu Nando, Professor Kenneth Ofokansi; and President General of Igbariam, Chief Anthony Chiokwe.

The representatives commended the committee for its intervention and appealed for the completion of the monumentation exercise to provide clear and permanent demarcation of the boundaries and safeguard lasting peace in their communities.

The meeting underscored the importance of dialogue, proper boundary demarcation and sustained engagement in preventing the recurrence of land disputes and promoting peaceful coexistence among communities.
