FMC Onitsha, ASHIA Deepen Partnership as Hospital Plans Female Medical Ward Renovation

The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Onitsha, and the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) have reaffirmed their partnership as the hospital announced plans to renovate its Female Medical Ward to improve patient care and healthcare delivery.

The Medical Director of FMC Onitsha, Dr. Mercy Anugwu, made this known during a courtesy visit to the headquarters of ASHIA in Awka, where she formally notified the agency of the proposed renovation project.

Dr. Anugwu congratulated the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of ASHIA, Dr. Augustine Ezeka, on his appointment, describing it as a well deserved recognition of his dedication, humility and commitment to public service.

She also appreciated the agency for its continued support to the hospital, recalling that ASHIA’s previous intervention led to the successful renovation of the hospital’s Dental Department, which has significantly improved service delivery.

According to the Medical Director, funds generated through the ASHIA programme will be used to renovate the Female Medical Ward, creating a more comfortable, modern and patient friendly environment while enhancing the quality of healthcare services.

Responding, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of ASHIA, Dr. Augustine Ezeka, thanked the management of FMC Onitsha for the visit and for informing the agency about the planned project.

He described the Federal Medical Centre as a critical healthcare institution in Anambra State and reaffirmed ASHIA’s commitment to supporting initiatives that improve healthcare infrastructure and service delivery.

Dr. Ezeka also urged the hospital to continue providing quality and affordable healthcare services to ASHIA enrollees, noting that improved patient care remains essential to achieving universal health coverage in Anambra State.
