Anambra CP Orders Crackdown On Police Extortion, Misconduct

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has ordered police officers across the state to stop extortion, harassment and other forms of misconduct in the discharge of their duties.

The Commissioner warned that any officer found illegally demanding money from members of the public or engaging in misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary measures.

“Henceforth, any police officer who engages in extortion or any form of misconduct will face the appropriate disciplinary measures,” CP Nnanna Oji said.

The directive is part of measures to improve policing, strengthen accountability and rebuild public confidence in the Anambra State Police Command.

He ordered the Command’s Operational Control Rooms to closely monitor checkpoints, patrol teams and other police operations across the state.

Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Team Commanders were also directed to take full responsibility for the conduct of officers under their command.

According to the Commissioner, the decision followed complaints and feedback received during recent security stakeholders’ meetings held across Anambra’s three senatorial districts.

CP Nnanna Oji stressed that police officers have a responsibility to protect lives and property and must not use their positions to exploit or intimidate members of the public.

He further directed senior officers to ensure strict compliance with the directive, warning that violations would attract disciplinary action.
