Eziowelle Erupts in Jubilation as Navy Unveils Youth Sports Arena

Eziowelle community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State was in celebration mood on Tuesday as the Nigerian Navy inaugurated a new multipurpose sports arena designed to empower youths, discover talents and promote community unity.

The facility, delivered under the Chief of the Naval Staff Special Intervention Quick Impact Project, includes a multipurpose sports arena, changing rooms and restrooms.

Representing the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas, the Chief of Communications and Information Technology, Rear Admiral Semiu Adepegba, said the project would provide youths with a productive space for sports and social engagement while helping to curb youth restiveness and other social vices.

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, represented by the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Mr Patrick Agha Mba, described the project as a powerful example of what individuals can achieve when they invest in their communities.

The project facilitator, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Anakwe, said the arena was more than a sports facility. It was a tribute to his late father, Rear Commander Emmanuel Chukuma Anakwe, a former Nigerian Navy officer and footballer who represented and captained Nigeria’s national team, the Red Devils, between 1956 and 1958.

Anakwe said his father taught him that leadership was about service, talent was meant to be given back and success carried a responsibility to the community.

“He is no longer here with us in body, but his spirit is here,” he said. “This arena is my way to say thank you, Daddy.”

The inauguration brought together senior military officers, government representatives, traditional rulers, community leaders and residents.

For Eziowelle’s young people, however, the message was simple: a new pitch, a new opportunity and perhaps the beginning of the next big sporting story from the community.
