EFCC Arrests Edo Spiritualist Over Alleged $1,100 Sextortion

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a self acclaimed spiritualist, Odigie Moses, in Ekpoma, Edo State, over an alleged sextortion scheme involving an Indian woman.
The suspect was arrested following an investigation into allegations that he obtained $1,100 from the woman after allegedly threatening to publish an intimate video of her.
According to the EFCC, Moses allegedly presented himself on Zelle as a spiritualist with special healing powers and attracted the victim, who was seeking spiritual intervention for what she described as life threatening challenges.
The commission said the suspect subsequently deceived the woman into participating in a naked spiritual bath, which he allegedly recorded without her consent.
After obtaining the video, Moses allegedly threatened to release the footage publicly unless the victim paid him money.
The EFCC said its investigation revealed that the woman eventually transferred a total of $1,100 to the suspect in an attempt to prevent the alleged release of the video.
The suspect is currently assisting investigators with the ongoing inquiry.
The commission said Moses would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The EFCC has continued to warn members of the public against falling victim to online fraudsters who exploit personal, emotional or spiritual vulnerabilities to extort money.
