Women Development Officers (WDOs) from various Local Government Areas of Anambra State have pledged stronger collaboration with the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare to advance women’s development, protect children and improve support for vulnerable groups.
The officers, led by Mrs Gloria Nwosu, made the pledge on Thursday during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Chinyere Onyekesi, in Awka to congratulate her on her appointment.
Nwosu commended the Commissioner’s commitment to women’s rights and the welfare of women and children, stressing that stronger cooperation between the Ministry and grassroots officers was essential to addressing challenges facing vulnerable persons.
In her response, Onyekesi outlined her vision for the Ministry, calling for sustained collaboration in implementing programmes on women’s empowerment, child protection and social welfare. She urged the officers to remain dedicated and ensure government interventions reach those who need them.
The Commissioner also emphasised community engagement as a key tool for identifying the needs of women and children and developing practical solutions, as both sides reaffirmed their commitment to improving social welfare across Anambra State.
