The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Command, has paraded four suspected electrical cable vandals arrested in separate operations across Abaji, Kubwa and the Wuye axis of Abuja.

The suspects were presented at the Command Headquarters in Wuse Zone 5 by the FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, following investigations into alleged vandalism, unlawful possession and trafficking of electrical installation cables.

In the Abaji operation, operatives arrested 44 year old Mammed Nuhu at residential quarters in the area council, allegedly in connection with the possession and storage of high tension aluminium conductor cables suspected to have been removed from Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) installations.

The NSCDC said preliminary investigations indicated that two other individuals, identified as Saifullah, 33, and Abdulraham, 25, allegedly brought the cables to Nuhu for safekeeping ahead of a proposed sale. The two individuals remain at large, according to the Command.

In a separate operation around Government Secondary School, Kubwa, operatives arrested Amos Makama, 27, and Ibrahim Mohammed Maitama Inuwa, 27, over alleged cable vandalism and unlawful possession of electrical materials.

The Command said Makama allegedly admitted cutting electrical wires inside the school building and attempting to escape with the materials. He reportedly told investigators that he had contacted Inuwa, an alleged buyer, who paid an advance of ₦35,000. The two suspects allegedly told investigators they had been involved in the business since 2024.

In another case, NSCDC operatives arrested Suleiman Jafaru near Berger Roundabout along the Wuye axis over alleged excavation and theft of armoured cables. Two diggers and armoured cables were reportedly recovered from him.

According to the Command, Jafaru allegedly told investigators he was removing cables from the roadside when he was arrested. Two other alleged accomplices reportedly escaped, and their identities and whereabouts are yet to be established.

The FCT Commandant condemned the alleged vandalism, warning that the destruction of electrical installations affects residents’ welfare, safety and economic wellbeing. He added that replacing stolen cables and repairing damaged infrastructure diverts resources that could otherwise be used to improve electricity services.

Odumosu said the Command would pursue not only those accused of removing the cables but also individuals who knowingly buy or provide a market for stolen electrical materials.

He urged residents, community leaders, commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators, traders and scrap metal dealers to report suspicious activities around electricity installations to the relevant authorities.

The NSCDC said investigations were ongoing and reiterated its commitment to intelligence led operations and bringing suspects to justice through due process.

The statement was signed by DSC Monica Ojobi, FCT Civil Defence Public Relations Officer, on October 21, 2026.

The allegations remain subject to investigation, and the suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law.
