Anambra Police Raid Criminal Hideouts, Arrest Seven Suspects, Recover Army Uniform, Ammunition Shells, Drugs
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested seven suspects and recovered an Army uniform, expended ammunition shells and substances suspected to be illicit drugs during separate raids on criminal hideouts in Umudioka and Ekwulobia.
The operations, conducted on Thursday, August 13, 2026, followed credible intelligence and directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on sustained raids against criminal networks, cultism and illicit drug activities.
In Umudioka, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit arrested 65 year old Ifeanyi Ogbuagbo. A search of his residence reportedly led to the recovery of an Army uniform and expended ammunition shells concealed in a black polythene bag. Police said preliminary information linked the suspect to a group allegedly agitating for self government.
In a separate operation in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area, six suspects were arrested at a suspected criminal hideout. They were identified as Chisom Okafor, 25; Onyedika Moses, 36; Iruka Nwaonu, 30; Joseph Nwankwo, 36; Chukwujekwu Nwoso, 32; and Akanimo Orok, 40.
Police said a quantity of dried weeds suspected to be Cannabis sativa and other substances suspected to be illicit drugs were recovered during the operation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, said the Command would sustain intelligence led operations, strategic patrols and raids to dismantle criminal networks and drug selling spots across the state.
