Anambra Assembly, Women Affairs Ministry Forge Stronger Partnership for Women’s Welfare

The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs has moved to strengthen its partnership with the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare to improve women’s welfare, economic empowerment and protection of their rights across the state.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Mimi Azikiwe, made the call when she led members on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Esther Onyekesi, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Awka.

Azikiwe said closer collaboration between the legislative and executive arms of government was necessary to develop and effectively implement policies that would have a direct impact on women and families in Anambra.

She reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality, expanding economic opportunities for women and strengthening the protection of women’s rights.

Responding, the Commissioner, Mrs. Esther Onyekesi, welcomed the proposed partnership, describing sustained synergy between both arms of government as essential to addressing challenges affecting women and advancing their wellbeing.

Onyekesi said stronger institutional collaboration would enhance the implementation of programmes designed to empower women, protect their rights and create more opportunities for their participation in the social and economic development of the state.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in women’s empowerment, social welfare, gender equality and the protection of women’s rights.
