Agummadu Resolves Ogidi, Ogbunike Land Dispute, Restores TCN Substation Project
The Anambra State Government has resolved the longstanding land dispute between the Ogidi and Ogbunike communities, clearing the way for the immediate resumption of work on the strategic Transmission Company of Nigeria substation expected to strengthen electricity supply across the state.
The breakthrough was achieved through the intervention of the Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Casmir Chinenye Agummadu, during a peace meeting with the Presidents General of both communities and senior government officials at his office in Awka.
The project had been stalled by a boundary dispute over the ownership of the land designated for the substation, delaying the delivery of a critical power infrastructure project.
Engr. Agummadu urged both communities to sustain the peace agreement and ensure that disputes do not hinder projects designed to improve the welfare of the people and accelerate development. He described the Transmission Company of Nigeria substation as a strategic investment that will strengthen the state’s electricity network, attract more investors and support Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s industrialisation agenda through reliable power supply.
The Commissioner for Lands, Prof. Offornze Dike Amaucheazi, SAN, commended both communities for embracing dialogue and peaceful resolution, noting that stable electricity remains vital for economic growth, employment generation and improved security.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission, Engr. Nnaemeka Ewelukwa, and the Governor’s Special Adviser on Investment, Mr. Udechukwu Christian, emphasized that peaceful communities create the confidence needed to attract investment and drive sustainable development.
The Presidents General of Ogidi and Ogbunike, Mr. Chijoke Ewesiobi and Mr. Tochukwu Samuel Obiakor, welcomed the resolution and approved the immediate return of contractors to the project site, reaffirming their commitment to lasting peace and the successful completion of the project.
The resolution is expected to accelerate the completion of the Transmission Company of Nigeria substation, a key electricity infrastructure project that will improve power supply and support economic development across Anambra State.
