Police arrest teenage suspect over alleged sexual assault of 16 year old girl in Delta hotel

The Delta State Police Command has arrested one of two teenage suspects allegedly involved in the sexual assault of a 16 year old girl at a hotel in the state.

The case came to public attention after a video relating to the incident went viral on social media.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, disclosed details of the investigation, noting that both the alleged victim and the suspects are minors.

According to the girl, she went to the hotel after one of the boys, whom she described as a friend, offered to pay her transport fare.

She alleged that three boys were initially in the hotel room, but two of them later sexually assaulted her repeatedly despite her pleas to stop.

The teenager also alleged that the boys knew she was menstruating at the time of the incident.

One of the arrested suspects, also 16, reportedly gave a different account during questioning. He allegedly told the police that he had sexual intercourse with the girl twice, while his alleged accomplice, identified as Goodluck, did so three times.

The suspect also claimed that the girl did not inform them that she was menstruating before the incident.

The police spokesperson expressed concern over the circumstances of the case, particularly because the alleged victim and suspects are all minors.

Edafe also disclosed that one of the suspects was allegedly involved in internet fraud and reportedly admitted that he and his younger brothers engaged in the activity.

The police spokesperson said the circumstances surrounding the incident were being investigated and warned that being a minor does not automatically remove a person from legal consequences where the law provides otherwise.

He also appealed to parents and guardians to pay closer attention to the welfare, upbringing and activities of their children.

The investigation is ongoing.
