An Anambra State High Court sitting in Ogidi has nullified the December 29, 2025 election of the Enugwu Agidi Brotherly Union, Nigeria, and ordered the conduct of a fresh election within 90 days.

Justice Etomike Ndigwe, who presided over the case at the court’s Ogidi sitting, ruled that the election did not comply with the constitution of the town union.

Speaking to ABS after the judgment, counsel to the plaintiff, Hon. Chukwuebuka Onuorah, Barrister Emmanuel Onwuemena, said the suit was instituted on January 13, 2026, over alleged violations of the town union’s constitution.

Onwuemena, who explained that his client was the immediate past President General of the union, said the election was challenged because it was not supervised by the outgoing President General as stipulated by the constitution.

Some stakeholders in Enugwu Agidi welcomed the judgment. A former President of the Enugwu Agidi Youth Organization, Comrade Clement Nebolisa, said the electoral committee should not have conducted the election due to what he described as a constitutional lacuna.

Another stakeholder, Chief Marius Okwuchukwu, said the judgment had restored peace in the community and served as a lesson to younger generations on the need to respect the rule of law.

However, counsel to one of the defendants, Hon. Bona Oraekwe, said he had received instructions from his client, Ozo Pius Nwankwo, to immediately appeal the judgment.
