Ekwusigo Mayor, Obi Accounts For Stewardship As Anambra Assembly Committee on LG, Chieftaincy Embarks On Oversight Visit

The Mayor of Ekwusigo Local Government Area, Hon. Chimezie Obi, says the council has installed 245 CCTV surveillance cameras and nearly 400 solar-powered streetlights at strategic locations across the area as part of efforts to strengthen security and maintain law and order.

Honourable Obi who also noted that the council also constructed three-kilometer road from Ozu- Enyaba Ozubulu to Ihembosi, disclosed this while highlighting the achievements of his administration to Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs.

According to him, Ekwusigo was previously among eight local government areas affected by the activities of non-state actors, but the situation has changed.

He added that the council had also enacted and enforced a bye-law prohibiting open grazing of cattle and other livestock, which he said had helped prevent potential farmer-herder clashes.

On infrastructure, the mayor said the council had completed three-kilometre Market Junction–Ozu- Enyaba Ozubulu to Ihembosi Road, using cement stabilization, describing it as one of the busiest routes in the area and an easier route to Awka.

The mayor further said the council embarked on the opening and widening of old track roads, with 14 roads opened and widened to a minimum of 30 feet, as part of efforts to properly plan the area for future development.

He added that practical skills had also been introduced in the council’s six public secondary schools, including tailoring for students in JS1 to JS3 and shoemaking for students in SS1 to SS3.

Earlier, the Chairman House Committee on LG, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Honourable Ebuka Igwe, Honourable Anayo Okpalaeke representing Aguata Constituency One, and Honourable Emma Nwafor representing Orumba South commended the Mayor for the huge achievements and development within few years in office.
