Schools Resume Across Onitsha as Public Schools Record Increased Enrollment

Schools have resumed across Onitsha for the 2026/2027 academic session, with public schools recording increased enrollment as more parents embrace government owned schools.

ABS monitoring of the resumption showed increased attendance of pupils and students in several schools, with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s free education initiative cited as a major factor encouraging parents to enroll their children and wards.

At Ado Girls Secondary School, Onitsha, the school was observed to be transitioning fully into the smart school initiative, with modern furniture and digital equipment already installed.

The Vice Principal Administration, Mrs Chinyere Ubachukwu, said the school was fully prepared for the new session and urged teachers to remain committed to actualising the administration’s vision for education.

Teachers, including Mrs Chioma Okeke and Mrs Chikwa Ufele, appreciated the government for providing modern digital facilities, saying the equipment has made teaching and learning easier.

At All Saints Primary School, Onitsha, pupils were seen in their classrooms receiving lessons as academic activities commenced.

The Headmistress, Mrs Eunice Ufele, appealed to parents to support their children’s educational needs, noting that the government has taken responsibility for school fees.
