Soludo’s Free Education Policy Boosts Enrollment in Anambra Government Schools

The free education policy of the Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, is continuing to attract more students to government secondary schools across the state.

The Principal of Urban Secondary School, Nkpor, Mrs Nkiru Okoye, disclosed this during ABS monitoring of school resumption activities, saying the school population has increased from about 1,600 to 2,300 students and is still rising.

Mrs Okoye said Governor Soludo directed that no items should be demanded from students during registration and that every child seeking admission should be given the opportunity to enroll, including non indigenes.

She said the school has 75 graduate teachers who have remained committed to their duties, attributing the students’ strong performance in this year’s WAEC examination to the dedication of the teaching staff.

At Union Secondary School, Obosi, there was also a large turnout of students and teachers on the first day of resumption, with cleaning, grass cutting and admission activities already underway.

The Principal, Mrs Ebere Onuoha, said about 80 percent of students and teachers had reported, while the Guidance Counsellor, Mrs Ngozi Akubuogu, said new students were still registering and would receive orientation.

Mrs Okoye urged parents to support the state’s education initiative by providing essential learning materials such as school bags and exercise books for their children and wards.
