Nigeria’s First Lady Gives ₦500m Grant to 5,000 Anambra Beneficiaries

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has announced cash grants of ₦100,000 each for 5,000 beneficiaries in Anambra State as part of her grassroots empowerment initiative.
The announcement was made during her visit to Anambra State, where she presided over the empowerment programme at Ekwueme Square, Awka. The grants, totalling ₦500 million, are expected to help beneficiaries strengthen their livelihoods and improve their economic activities.
Welcoming the First Lady to the state, Governor Chukwuma Soludo commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic and infrastructural reforms, describing them as important steps towards repositioning the Nigerian economy.
While acknowledging the economic difficulties facing Nigerians, Soludo expressed optimism that the Tinubu administration would build a stronger and fairer economy in the years ahead.
Against this backdrop, the Governor emphasised the importance of cooperation between the Federal and state governments, stressing that political differences should not prevent leaders from working together to improve the lives of citizens.
He further said Anambra would continue to adapt federal initiatives to address the needs of communities through the state’s community focused development approach.
One of the initiatives highlighted by the Governor was the National Community Food Bank Programme, which he said would be expanded to communities across the state. Under the arrangement, Primary Healthcare Centres would serve as food bank points, making nutritious food more accessible to vulnerable families.
Soludo also commended his wife, Nonye Soludo, for complementing the initiatives of the First Lady at the state level, particularly in the areas of nutrition, human capital development and grassroots empowerment.
Responding, Senator Oluremi Tinubu said her nationwide tour had taken her across all six geopolitical zones and expressed satisfaction that Anambra would host the concluding phase of the exercise.
She used the occasion to call for greater national unity, assuring Nigerians that there was hope for the country and urging citizens to look beyond ethnic and political differences and embrace one another as compatriots.
In line with the focus on supporting vulnerable families, the First Lady also urged mothers struggling to feed their children to visit Primary Healthcare Centres where food banks had been established, stressing the importance of proper nutrition for children.
She thanked Governor Soludo for his support and cooperation with the Federal Government, particularly his support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The visit also featured a special recognition for the First Lady, as the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council conferred on her the traditional title of Ugoeze Anambra.
