NiMet Forecasts Thunderstorms, Rainfall Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has forecast thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across several parts of Nigeria on Monday, September 7, 2026.

In its daily weather outlook covering midnight to 11:59 p.m., the agency said parts of Adamawa, Kebbi and Taraba States would experience morning thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall.

NiMet also predicted thunderstorms with moderate rainfall across most Northern states during the afternoon and evening.

For the Central region, including the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Plateau, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa and Kwara States, morning thunderstorms with light rainfall are expected in some areas, followed by moderate rainfall across most parts of the region later in the day.

The agency forecast cloudy skies and light rainfall over parts of Ebonyi, Edo, Delta, Abia, Cross River, Ondo, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Bayelsa States in the morning.

It added that parts of the South East, South South and South West could experience light rainfall during the afternoon and evening.

NiMet warned that moderate rainfall, particularly across the Northern and Central regions, could cause temporary water accumulation and localised flooding in low lying and poorly drained areas.

Residents were advised to avoid open spaces during thunderstorms, seek safe shelter and disconnect electrical appliances where necessary.

Motorists were also urged to exercise caution because of reduced visibility and slippery roads, while residents were advised against driving or walking through flooded roads.

Airline operators were advised to obtain airport specific weather briefings from NiMet to support safe flight planning.
