FCT Hands Over Arrested Drug Trafficking Suspects To NDLEA For Prosecution

The FCT Police Command has handed over arrested suspects and recovered illicit drugs to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for further investigation and prosecution.

The handover, carried out on Friday, August 21, 2026, by the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, is part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between security and law enforcement agencies in the fight against drug-related crimes in the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the collaboration is aimed at ensuring a more coordinated response to drug trafficking and other criminal activities across the FCT.

CP Sanusi said although the Police has the legal authority to investigate and prosecute drug-related offences, closer collaboration with the NDLEA, whose statutory responsibility includes drug law enforcement, would strengthen the overall fight against illicit drugs.

Receiving the suspects and recovered items on behalf of the NDLEA FCT Strategic Command, its Public Relations Officer, ACN Samuel Orji, thanked the Police Command for the handover and assured that the suspects would be properly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The FCT Police Command said it would continue to deepen its partnership with sister security agencies and other stakeholders to tackle criminality and improve public safety in Abuja.
