Operation Fansan Yamma Rescues 12 Kidnapped Victims, Thwarts Abduction Attempts in Zamfara

Troops of Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 12 kidnapped civilians and thwarted fresh abduction attempts during separate operations in Kaura Namoda and Tsafe Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.

The operations, conducted on September 7, 2026, followed efforts by troops to disrupt terrorist activities and protect communities and road users across the state.

In Kaura Namoda, troops responded to a distress call after terrorists infiltrated a residence at Tsohon Tasha. The troops engaged the attackers, forcing them to abandon six abducted civilians and flee across a nearby river.

The rescued victims were evacuated to safety and subsequently reunited with their families.

In Tsafe, troops monitoring activities along the Main Supply Route observed terrorists attempting to intercept a Sharon vehicle at Kwanoni Village.

The troops swiftly mobilised to the location and engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon the operation and withdraw into the adjoining bush.

Six civilians were subsequently rescued during the operation, bringing the total number of victims rescued in the two incidents to 12.

The Joint Task Force said the operations demonstrated the troops’ continued commitment to protecting lives and property while disrupting terrorist activities and denying them freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to eradicate terrorist elements from the area.
