Onitsha Residents Comply With Compulsory Environmental Sanitation

Residents of Onitsha Inland Town have complied with the Anambra State Government’s directive on the compulsory environmental sanitation exercise held today across the state.

Total compliance were observed in parts of the Onitsha metropolis, as vehicular movement was largely absent and shops along major roads remained closed.

Some residents were seen actively clearing refuse and cleaning drainage channels in front of their homes and business premises as part of efforts to improve environmental cleanliness.

Ugwunobamkpa, Okosi, Uguta and New Cemetery roads were largely deserted during the exercise, with only a few children seen fetching water from the Solution Water Pump provided by the state government.

Motor parks within the area were also deserted, while some passengers were seen waiting for the sanitation exercise to end before continuing their journeys.

Meanwhile, security and law enforcement personnel were deployed to enforce compliance, with officers moving around the city to monitor the exercise and apprehend suspected defaulters.

The development reflects the growing emphasis by the state government on environmental sanitation and the need for residents to take responsibility for maintaining clean and healthy surroundings.
