Anambra Police Arrest Five Members Of Criminal Gang, Recover Millions, Vandalised Property

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested five suspected members of a criminal gang and recovered suspected illicit drugs valued at ₦1.45 million, a counterfeit US$100 note, vandalised electrical wires and ₦72,550 cash.

The suspects were arrested when operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, raided a suspected criminal hideout at Nawfia, Njikoka Local Government Area, around 12:48 p.m.

The arrested suspects were identified as Omogo Obinna, 29; Okechukwu Nwagba, 28; Echezona Okonkwo, 29; Awal Umar, 23; and Ogadinma Boniface, 33.

Police said the recovered substances included suspected Cannabis Sativa, Canadian Loud, Black Mamba, Colorado and Loud, alongside vandalised electrical wires, cash and the suspected counterfeit currency.

According to the Command, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects may be members of a wider criminal network operating in the area. Police said the suspects have made useful statements and allegedly provided information on other suspected members of the group.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the operatives for the successful raid and directed that the investigation be conducted thoroughly and professionally.

He also ordered intensified efforts to apprehend other fleeing suspects and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.

The Police Command urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies, stressing that community cooperation remains critical to combating drug-related crimes, vandalism and other forms of criminality in the state.
