Ebonyi Elder Found Dead After APGA Endorsement Meeting

ABAKALIKI: An elderly man identified as Amos Onwe Ubochi, in his 70s, has been found dead in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, a day after attending an APGA endorsement meeting for the party’s candidate for Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, Tochukwu Ogalagu.

Ubochi, a resident of Osege Village, reportedly left the political meeting on Monday, August 17, 2026, and was trekking home when he was allegedly attacked by unknown persons.

His body was discovered the following day along a bush path within the community. Police said operatives evacuated the remains to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, where he was confirmed dead.

Ogalagu condemned the killing as “callous, inhuman and condemnable”, saying Ubochi had led elders in prayers and participated in the endorsement of APGA candidates during the meeting.

He called on security agencies to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice. Ogalagu also alleged that the killing could be linked to threats allegedly issued by political actors in the constituency.

However, the allegation remains unproven, as police have commenced investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.

The Ebonyi State Police Command, through its spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident and appealed to anyone with useful information to assist investigators.

The Command assured residents that it would take all necessary steps to unravel the circumstances surrounding the elder’s death.
