Ogbunike Youths Condemn Mob Attack on UNIZIK Professor, Demand Investigation

Concerned youths of Ogbunike community in Anambra State have condemned the alleged mob attack and public humiliation of Prof. Ifeanyi Sunny Odinye, a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, describing the incident as “jungle justice” and demanding a full investigation.

In a statement signed by the Convener, Chief Okey Nwosu, and Secretary, Chibuike Uloka, MNIPR, the youths said they were shocked by a viral video showing the professor being attacked on the university campus.

The group stressed that no allegation, whether proven or unproven, justifies mob action, insisting that every person is entitled to fair hearing and due process under the law. It called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those who participated in the alleged assault.

The youths also demanded an impartial investigation into the allegation surrounding the incident, with appropriate university and security authorities handling the matter transparently. They further called for continued medical attention for Prof. Odinye and measures to guarantee his safety.

Describing Prof. Odinye as an accomplished academic who has contributed significantly to the development of Chinese language studies in Nigeria, the group said his decades of service and contribution to education should not be overshadowed by an allegation yet to be established through due process.

The Ogbunike youths said the community would not prejudge the matter, but insisted that justice must be served fairly to all parties, warning against the use of social media or mob action as a substitute for proper investigation.

“A man who has given his career to developing young people deserves better than to be tried and punished by a crowd on the strength of an unverified claim,” the statement said.
