UNIZIK Orders Investigation Into Viral Video of Assault on Lecturer

The Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has ordered a full scale investigation into a viral video showing the assault of a lecturer following an allegation of attempted sexual misconduct involving a female student.
The incident reportedly occurred within the university premises on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with videos of the confrontation subsequently circulating on social media.
In a statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Comrade Aloysius Emeka Attah, the university condemned the assault, stressing that allegations of misconduct must be addressed through established institutional procedures and due process.
The university reaffirmed its zero tolerance for sexual misconduct, harassment and inappropriate behaviour, but warned that no individual or group should resort to violence or jungle justice.
Management said an immediate, comprehensive and impartial investigation has been activated to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure fairness to all parties.
The university further assured students and staff of its commitment to protecting their dignity, safety and wellbeing, adding that further developments would be communicated in due course.
