Troops Rescue Nine Kidnapped Victims, Foil Terrorist Attacks In Niger

Troops of 18 Brigade have rescued nine kidnapped victims and foiled attempted terrorist attacks in Mariga and Rijau Local Government Areas of Niger State.

The victims were rescued on Wednesday, August 12, during an offensive operation by troops of the Nigerian Army Training Centre Admin Battalion deployed at Kotonkoro, Mariga LGA. They were handed over to local authorities for documentation and reunification with their families.

In a separate operation in Rijau, troops successfully cleared a terrorist ambush and recovered seven motorcycles, one camel, 47 cattle and 18 sheep suspected to have been rustled from local communities.

Earlier on August 10, troops from the Brigade’s Quick Response Force, alongside 311 Artillery Regiment and Chief of Army Staff Special Intervention Battalion X, foiled an attempted terrorist infiltration of communities in Rijau.

The troops recovered an AK 47 rifle, ammunition, a magazine and a motorcycle, while six other motorcycles used by the terrorists were destroyed.

The Brigade Commander commended the troops for their courage and urged them to sustain offensive operations and continue working with local communities to deny terrorists and other criminal elements freedom of action.
