Police Bust Suspected Drug Hideout in Delta, Arrest 56 Year Old, Recover 21 Bags of Indian Hemp

ASABA — Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have busted a suspected drug distribution network in Owa Abbi, Ukwani Local Government Area, arresting a 56 year old man and recovering 21 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

The operation was carried out on August 8 by operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit following what the police described as credible and actionable intelligence.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the development in a statement on Sunday, saying the operation formed part of the command’s intelligence led crime fighting efforts.

During the raid on the suspected criminal hideout, the police arrested Lucky Oyiboka, 56, while a search of the premises led to the recovery of the suspected illicit drugs.

The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect was allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs.

Authorities said investigations have been intensified to establish the extent of the suspected drug network and identify other persons who may be connected to the operation.

The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence led policing and sustained operations against criminal networks and the proliferation of illicit drugs across the state.

He also appealed to members of the public to provide security agencies with credible and timely information, assuring residents that the identities of informants would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
