Anambra Begins Five Year Health Promotion Strategic Workshop

By Chukwuemeka Modilim

The Anambra State Ministry of Health has commenced a three day workshop to develop a five year strategic plan for coordinating and improving health promotion activities across the state.

The workshop is supported by the World Health Organization, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and other development partners, with participants expected to develop a framework that will guide health promotion and communication interventions in the state.

Speaking on the need for the workshop, a WHO consultant, Olumide Adetioye, said fragmented health promotion activities among government programmes and development partners had resulted in poor coordination, inconsistent messaging and limited impact.

Adetioye said the workshop would promote better coordination, harmonisation and evidence based health promotion programmes that respond to the needs of the people.

The first day featured registration and introductory sessions, followed by welcome remarks by the Director of Public Health, Dr Afam Anaeme, who represented the Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike.
