Troops Foil Armed Herders’ Attack, Recover AK 47 Rifle in Benue
Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, have foiled an attack by suspected armed herders on Azege Village in Tombo Council Ward, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The troops responded to a distress call on Monday, August 10, 2026, and engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to flee the area.
During a follow up operation, troops recovered the body of one of the suspected attackers and an AK 47 rifle, with a magazine containing 16 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, as well as a Nokia mobile phone.
The recovered items were secured, while the Police evacuated the remains of the suspected attacker. Security forces have continued efforts to track and apprehend other members of the group who escaped.
Operation Whirl Stroke commended the troops and the Police for their cooperation, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.
