Agunechemba Dislodges Gunmen’s Camps, Recovers Rocket Launchers in Anambra

The Anambra State security outfit, Agunechemba Security Squad, has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing operations against criminal elements, dislodging suspected gunmen’s camps in Orumba North and Orumba South Local Government Areas and recovering a cache of sophisticated weapons, including two General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG) and locally fabricated rocket launchers.
The recovered weapons have since been handed over to the Nigerian Army as part of the collaboration between state and federal security agencies in tackling insecurity.
According to Agunechemba’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Nweke Nweke, the operation followed days of intelligence gathering and undercover surveillance at identified criminal flashpoints across Anambra South Senatorial District.
He described the recovery as another significant achievement in the campaign to dismantle criminal networks and restore lasting peace in the state.
Speaking during the handover ceremony in Awka, the Director of Operations of Agunechemba Security Squad, Chief Chinenye Ihenko, who represented the Governor’s Special Adviser on Community Security, Mr. Kenneth Emeakayi, said the operation demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence driven security operations and inter agency cooperation.
He disclosed that the operatives came under attack during the operation but successfully repelled the gunmen, forcing them to flee with injuries while abandoning their weapons.
According to him, the operation was one of the outfit’s biggest successes, as no operative was injured despite the fierce confrontation.
Chief Ihenko commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for providing the necessary support and logistics that have strengthened the capacity of the security outfit to reclaim criminal hideouts, particularly in Orumba North, Orumba South, Ihiala and Ogbaru Local Government Areas.
He also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information, stressing that security remains a collective responsibility.
Receiving the recovered weapons on behalf of the Nigerian Army, the Commander of the 302 Artillery Regiment (General Support), Onitsha, Colonel Buteus Yakubu, represented by Lieutenant P.O. Idowu, praised Agunechemba for its courage and professionalism.
He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to sustaining collaboration with the Anambra State Government, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to rid the state of criminal elements.
The latest operation underscores ongoing efforts by the Anambra State Government to strengthen internal security through intelligence based operations and strategic partnerships with federal security agencies.
