Kwara Abductors Reject N155m Ransom, Threaten to Kill Captives and Force Female Victims Into Marriage

Families of 176 residents abducted from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have raised fresh concerns over the fate of the victims, alleging that their captors have rejected more than N155 million raised as ransom.

The victims were reportedly abducted on February 3, 2026, while the terrorists later issued a one week ultimatum to the Federal Government in April, threatening to kill the captives if their demands were not met.

According to a Kaiama indigene, Abdul Ibrahim, members of the affected communities mobilised more than N155 million through community contributions in an effort to secure the release of the victims.

He alleged, however, that the kidnappers rejected the money and continued to hold the abductees.

Ibrahim further alleged that the terrorists threatened to force some of the female captives into marriage and kill the remaining victims if their demands were not met.

“We have done everything within our means. The money was raised, yet our people have not been released. Their suffering continues, and families are living in agony,” he said.

The development has heightened concerns among families of the abductees, who are reportedly still waiting for government intervention to secure the safe release of their loved ones.

Ibrahim also said peaceful protests organised by members of the affected communities had failed to produce the intervention they expected.

The latest allegations have renewed calls for intensified security operations and urgent action by the authorities to secure the safe release of the 176 abducted residents.
