Two Former Oko Poly Graduates Confirmed Dead in Collapsed Anambra Hostel

The bodies of two former students of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Vivian Chinedum and her boyfriend, Ifeanyi Stanley, have been recovered from the rubble of the collapsed Elite 5 Star Hostel in Amaokpala, near the institution in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The hostel building, said to contain about 60 rooms, collapsed on the night of Sunday, July 26, 2026, trapping several occupants beneath the debris.

The deceased, both alumni of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, were described by friends as a hardworking and ambitious young couple striving to build a better future. Vivian was reportedly a baker, while Ifeanyi, popularly known as Don Cash, worked as a Moniepoint PoS machine distributor.

According to sources, Ifeanyi had visited Vivian at the hostel at about 10:45 p.m. on the night of the incident. What was expected to be a routine visit tragically became their final moments together as the building collapsed.

The confirmation of their deaths has sparked an outpouring of grief on social media, with friends, colleagues and well wishers paying tribute to the couple.

One of their friends, Ganobi Precious Ifeanyichukwu, described Vivian and Ifeanyi as a hardworking and promising couple whose lives were cut short at a time they were working towards achieving their dreams.

The tragic incident has renewed calls for a thorough investigation into the cause of the building collapse and the enforcement of building safety standards to prevent similar disasters.
