Nigerian Jailed in UK for Sexually Assaulting Woman After She Rejected His Advances

A 45 year old Nigerian man, Obinwa Obichukwu, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment in the United Kingdom for sexually assaulting a woman twice at Euston Station in London after she rejected his advances.

The incident occurred on August 20, 2023, when Obichukwu approached the woman, who was walking alone while listening to music, and attempted to strike up a conversation. He reportedly grabbed her hand, declared his “love” for her, put his arm around her shoulders, and invited her to his home despite her lack of interest.

According to investigators, Obichukwu followed the woman along Euston Road and sexually assaulted her at the station entrance before following her down the escalator, where he assaulted her again near the ticket barriers. The victim eventually managed to push him away and escape.

British Transport Police officers later identified and arrested Obichukwu at his home in Hertfordshire. Although he claimed the encounter was consensual, a jury found him guilty on two counts of sexual assault in January 2026.

At Inner London Crown Court on July 21, 2026, he was sentenced to two years in prison. The court also imposed a 10 year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and ordered that he be placed on the UK Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.

Reacting to the judgment, Detective Constable Daniel Burke described Obichukwu as “a sexual predator” who targeted a lone woman, adding that the conviction demonstrates the determination of British Transport Police to tackle violence against women and girls and ensure offenders are brought to justice.
