Oyo Takes Delivery of N7.7bn Surveillance Aircraft to Strengthen Security

IBADAN — The Oyo State Government has taken delivery of two security surveillance aircraft valued at N7.76 billion, more than a year after announcing their procurement as part of efforts to strengthen security across the state.

The aircraft arrived on Tuesday at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, marking a major boost to the state’s security architecture.

Announcing the development, the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, said the aircraft would enhance aerial surveillance, intelligence gathering and rapid response operations in Oyo State and neighbouring areas.

According to him, the two DA 42 MNG aircraft are specially designed for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions and are fitted with advanced surveillance technology capable of identifying targets from both high and low altitudes.

Oyelade noted that the aircraft would complement the operations of the Amotekun Corps and other security agencies in tracking criminal activities, dismantling bandits’ hideouts and improving the overall security of the state.

The Oyo State Government had announced the procurement of the aircraft on July 9, 2025, stating that the acquisition cost N7.76 billion as part of its commitment to deploying modern technology in the fight against insecurity.

The government expressed confidence that the deployment of the surveillance aircraft would significantly improve intelligence-led operations, strengthen coordination among security agencies and enhance public safety across Oyo State.
